Smstweeted yet?

I started to use Vakow! almost a year ago but the service sadly died midway through my VTU fest tweets. The tweets were cheap at 1ps and i missed them because i could only access twitter through Echofon(formerly Twitterfox). But recently i was pointed towards SMStweet.in by @Rishi

Now Smstweet is a service created by @mayanks and you can read more about it here.
This service is good for someone like me. I registered and tried it. It costs me 50ps to Tweet. But its still anyday better than the Premium sms rates or other methods of updating on the Go! This works for me when i need to tweet badly so i guess you’ll find more ‘on the go’ tweets from me.

To Kill A Mocking Bird: Movie Review

Another thing got added to my ‘Nitte To-do list‘ recently. To watch a Movie with the Faculty projected in an AC seminar hall. The movie in question was ‘To kill a Mocking Bird’ which s based on the Pulitzer award winning novel of the same name, written by Harper Lee.

The Movie filmed in 1962 starred Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch is a lawyer in a racially divided Alabama town in the 1930s. He agrees to defend a young black man who is accused of raping a white woman.

We are told the story from the viewpoint of “Scout”, the 6 year old tomboy child of Atticus. An adult Scout narrates the story to the audience. The Innocence of Scout is clearly visible through out. There’s also side stories about Boo Radley and the the Development of Atticus’ image in the eyes of the viewer (as well as his children) as the film progresses.

Its a wonderful story and the movie is well made. The Characters have been essayed perfectly. I loved the movie, even though i could predict part of the story line. Even after the Movie, there was one Quote that stayed with me.

Conversation:

Atticus Finch: I remember when my daddy gave me that gun. He told me that I should never point it at anything in the house; and that he’d rather I’d shoot at tin cans in the backyard. But he said that sooner or later he supposed the temptation to go after birds would be too much, and that I could shoot all the blue jays I wanted – if I could hit ’em; but to remember it was a sin to kill a mockingbird.

Jem: Why?

Atticus Finch: Well, I reckon because mockingbirds don’t do anything but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat people’s gardens, don’t nest in the corncrib, they don’t do one thing but just sing their hearts out for us.

Spectra: Day 1

This blog seems to resemble a College Fest review as the past few posts have been ‘fest’ related 😛 well P.A.C.E., M’lore hosted their first Inter-Collegiate fest today. I had to be there mainly because my good friend Ashri was one of the Chief- Coordinators 🙂

Day 1 was fun! we(Me and Rasion) qualified for Wordgames but lost the 2nd place to Rajat and Vigneshwar because of that Damn Tongue Twister Round 😦 “Larry sent the Latter a Letter Later”.
Our DC performance was unexpectedly good.. Its our best so far, in my opinion.
“Are you smarter than a First Year” saw Rajat and Karthik walk away with the First Place.
Execute had 2 of our teams in the 2nd round and even Gaming saw our teams move to the Next Level.

Tomorrow There’s Pot Pourri and DC finals for us.. hope they go well too..

Now There are a couple of things i did today that i am proud of 🙂

  • Me and Rajat hitched a ride in Their all Girl’s(normally) bus.
  • Spelt out ‘T I T S’ on stage at the Word games final round.

ha ha ha ha!

Music Review: Snow Patrol, The Killers

A Hundred Million Suns: Just an amazing album alltogether. I wasnt much of a Snow Patrol fan but this album kinda changed it all for me. I can stop listening to it! The subtle Music and awesome Lyrics are just what the doctor ordered for me 🙂

You cool your bed warm hands down
on the broken radiator
And when you lay them freezing on me
I mumble can you wake me later

But I don’t really want you to stop
And you know it so it doesn’t stop you
You run your hands from my neck
To my chest

Crack the shutters open wide
I want to bathe you in the light of day
And just watch you as the rays
Tangle up around your face and body

I could sit for hours
Finding new ways to be awed each minute
Cause the daylight seems to want you
Just as much as I want you

It’s been minutes it’s been days
It’s been all I will remember
Happy lost in your hair
And the cold side of the pillow

Your hills and valleys
Are mapped by my intrepid fingers
And in a naked slumber
I dream all this again

Crack the shutters open wide
I want to bathe you in the light of day
And just watch you as the rays
Tangle up around your face and body

I could sit for hours
Finding new ways to be awed each minute
Cause the daylight seems to want you
Just as much as I want you

Crack the shutters open wide
I want to bathe you in the light of day
And just watch you as the rays
Tangle up around your face and body

I could sit for hours
Finding new ways to be awed each minute
Cause the daylight seems to want you
Just as much as I want you

Day and Age

Day And Age: Ok now this is typically ‘Killers’ sound. On the first hearing it didnt impress me much except for the first 3-4 songs. The Killers are the type of band who’s Lyrics being largely non-sensible are nontheless catchy and make you want to sing them out loud( and also to learn them drum rolls 😉 ) Hence its always a pleasure to hear them.

Console me in my darkest hour
Convince me that the truth is always grey
Caress me in your velvet chair
Conceal me from the ghost you cast away

I ain’t in no hurry, you go run
And tell your friends I’m losing touch
Fill their heads with rumours of impending doom
It must be true

Console me in my darkest hour
And tell me that you always hear my cries
I wonder what you got conspired
I’m sure it was the consolation prize

I ain’t in no hurry, you go run
And tell your friends I’m losing touch
Fill the night with stories, the legend grows
Of how you got lost

But you made your way back home
You sold your soul, like a roaming vagabond, yeah

I heard you found a wishing well
In the city
Console me in my darkest hour (in my darkest hour)
And you throw me down

I ain’t in no hurry, you go run
And tell your friends I’m losing touch
Fill your crown with rumours
Impending doom, it must be true

But you made your way back home
You sold your soul, like a roaming vagabond

And about how you got lost, but you made your way back home
You went and sold your soul, an allegiance dead and gone
I’m losing touch

–‘Losing Touch’

These are the two albums i have been listening to continously and even though it doesnt show it on Last. fm its the truth. The music plays on the mp3 player mostly and its not an iPod to scrobble.

Comics and me

so here we are again. another study holidays. another boring set of days.

ok so here is one of things that got me interested. Comic Books. Yes, Comic Books. i’ve always been a fan of Comics; Marvel and DC. Xmen and alternate stories especially. Read quite a few and bought whenever i could. but the fact that comics are very rare to come by in India i had to be content with the books in the Local libraries. the only fault with that was that you couldnt get to read continuous series. ok so the other day when i visited Demonoid i came across torrent links for COMICS!! i didnt know there were people out there who actually scanned comics and put them on torrents. well being a customer of BSNL ‘s HOME 250 plan i’ve never gone hunting for torrents if you think that i was ignorant or a noob or something. And so was completely surprised to find the torrents.

Ok so how do you read these comics?? they usually come in compressed formats: zip, rar, ace or tar archive file. i thought you needed to unzip those files and then somehow read them. well i dint have the time that day after i downloaded my first comic, DC Universe 0. after 2 days, during a casual conversation about loafing during study holidays , i came to know that my friend was reading Naruto Manga. thats how i came across “Cdisplay“, an awesome reader to read comics. It auto decompresses the files and allows you to read the comic. read more at the page.

ok so here’s to the future!! will be reading more soon. sent the files to a couple of friends to get me some more as i cant do it myself. something to wait for these hols. apart from more SouthPark Episodes 🙂

Currently very interested with Final Crisis-a new series on DC.

Thanks to: Sindhu for the Demonoid invitation code ( even though i hadnt asked 😀 )  and to Rahul for letting me know about Cdisplay.

Manorama Six Feet Under

there i was channel surfing while having breakfast and decided to check out the local movie channel. there was a hindi movie playing ( just started) which i recognized as “Manorama Six Feet Under” i had wanted to watch it cause i had heard that it was a different type of movie. true, it is a non-mainstream movie. the main protagonist is Satyaveer(Abhay Deol) is a down on his luck junior engineer . he used to be a writer whose first work “Manorama” sold barely 200 copies which was why he lost interest.

the movie opens portaying him in a bored life in a small rajasthani town , married with a kid, from where he sees no escape. one day a woman appears and asks him to play detective akin to his book’s creation “detective Raghu”. Satyaveer is pending enquiry regarding a bribe that he took and hence jumps at the idea of making some money rs 20,000 to be exact. so he takes up the assignment and his life spirals out of control. the woman dies ( murdered , he says) , he gets beaten up by thugs and his marriage gets rocky. what happens after this? how the plot unfolds? watch it 🙂

i liked the way the movie was picturised , directed. the dialogues where good although the rajasthani dialect is at times difficult to understand but everything is explained so not much ambiguity is left( there still is some ) The story flows smoothly , is a bit slow at times. It incorporates the nuances of small town life and politics. i loved the detailing.

by the way , it appears that this is a remake of a Hollywood movie “Chinatown” starring Jack Nicholson and directed by Roman Polanski.
